Why Our Products Cost What They Do

Transparency is a particularly idiotic thing to build your business on. You can only really be as transparent as a concave/convex glass (being transparent yet distorting everything beyond).

Hello, I'm Jacob. I am a Nineteen year old Nerd, Freelancer, Gamer and owner of LongBoardin' and I am currently exploring (stuff that probably doesn't interest you). I am your next friend and will soon write a post about myself and about other things that have nothing to do with you or may not interest you.
So subscribe!

It has been a known fact that most businesses and companies will try their best to milk what they can (or feel they deserve) from you for providing a particular service (or services) to you.

They're right!

a piggy bank

However, they are wrong if they don't let you know why they milk the amount they do from your financial bosom (at least I think they are).
To inform you of my prices, why they are the way they are, to be more precise, is why I wrote this.

It's simple.

Shipping!

Let me try to explain a theory to all of you.

Store owners make money in two ways (not necessarily).

The shipping cost is their profit. OR
Their profit is in the price.

So when free shipping is offered, for some, it means no profit and for some, it means free shipping. But in rare cases (when they business owner is me), free shipping means free shipping for the customer and possibly no profit.

So this is the funny part.

You pay shipping. And that's why prices are high.

The cost of the board + The shipping costs (USPS or FEDEX usually with a tracking code) = Price listing on the store.

The cost is also affected by other factors. Like the size of the board, the material of the board, the wheels.
Not really!

So a board that costs $80 (wholesale price) + $70-150 for shipping (depending on where you're ordering from) will be listed as $150-230 on the store.

NOTE: These are not the actual figures I use, but it's the formula.

Whatever is left after your board has reached you (in 3-10 days depending on where you live) goes to my next campaign or to my pocket (to be used for my next campaign).

For every board order, I profit anywhere between $30-100 (or less than that). Sometimes it's nothing.

Now, you may think that this sounds reasonable and you may think that it doesn't. But between charging you more for a Longboard to get it to you in 3-10 days (depending on where you live) and charging you less, including shipping, to get you a Longboard anywhere between 15-60 days all so I can seem like a nice guy and (sometimes) create a "FREE SHIPPING" discount (ad).

I'd choose the first option. But I would be happy to strike a deal with anyone who can wait long for cheaper and with out a tracking code.

Any who. Now you know.

I don't think this is enough to gain your trust but I hope this breaks the ice.
I have US based suppliers and China based suppliers. I recommend the Shiver with SharkWheel boards (like the one below) for US based customers.

But it’s your choice! Have at it.

Happy shopping and shredding!
